Here are pics from my third 5K, which was the local Gateway Bank 5K on March 19.
My time was my fastest yet (just under 35 minutes), though I only had 3.07 miles total on my Garmin. A 5K is technically 3.10 miles; my other two 5Ks, according to my Garmin, were 3.19 and 3.18, so it's hard to compare my time when I ran a lot farther on the other two.
But considering I hadn't run in nine days because I hurt my back, I think I did pretty well. The weather was great, the volunteers were super, and Matthew kicked butt! He ran it in just over 20 minutes, placing him 2nd in his age group. (The overall winner, a male in his mid-to-late 30s, did it in just over 16 minutes. Wow.)
Anyway, here are a few pics. I feel like I always look fatter in pics than I feel when I'm actually running. But, hey, I'm out there running, I guess.
I was signed up to run my fourth 5K the very next week, but we had really bad storms that morning, and so it was postponed until some time in May.
I've gotten up to four miles on my training runs. I try to run three times a week. Twice a week, I run six laps in my neighborhood, which is about three miles. And then once a week I do a "long run," which right now is only slightly longer than my regular runs. I am increasing my long run half a mile every two weeks. I have a plan to do this (with some variation, increasing my three-mile runs to four miles and then four-and-a-half later in the year), and that should get me ready for the Disney Half Marathon in January 2012.
